This is shaping up quite nicely. Excellent execution on the upgrades too. Glad you found my thread on my build, hope it proves useful as a reference and guide.
And to confirm for you, yes the flaps (and inner landing gear doors) droop due to loss of hydraulic pressure when the engine is shut down. The elevators in the back droop due to gravity, pulling the stick forward in the cockpit. If the plane was sitting sideways on a hill, the rudder would likely slip sideways as well, pulling the stick correspondingly. By the way, did you ever find the pilot's name you spoke with?

Thank you very much, Vermin_King, Inky, NStarkel, kacrut for your wishes on my B-day. I hope you are returned with double blessings!
My friend Don... I always enjoy your lessons on History and I'm honored to have one on my thread. You made me go to make some research on Terry and the Pirates, as well as Flip Cochran. Do you think his character will be played on the upcoming movie? I've always think of those great human examples as eternal characters to learn from. I also found the Journal of Military History with your note. CMags, thanks for the confirmation on the physics of Mustangs. And I'm still checking on the pilot's name. In the excitement, I forgot to ask for his name. But I'll post a picture and his signature, maybe someone out there would help me to get his correct name. More on the Red Tail. Another change I made on this model is that the propellers on the real Mustang are of the uncuffed type, whereas the Marek/Airdave model comes with cuffed propellers. Cuffed propellers Uncuffed propellers, original P-51 Tuskegee Airmen So I made the propellers uncuffed by cutting a few millimeters off the propeller bases. I also added the exhaust tubes to the Merlin, and the tail wheel. I think is placed too much to the forward, so I will change it a little to the aft. Coming up, pictures of the finished war bird. |

Very nice build! I've got this kit along with AirDave's cockpit add-on, but I'll need to check if my kit has wheel wells. Otherwise I'll have to get the other add-on that you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up.

Rmks, the wheel wells included with the plane are simply printed, to be laminated behind the wheel well opening, flush with the under-wing surface. What Gerado and I have done with this is to take that graphic, and create our own wall for it to give it actual depth (ditto for the tail wheel well). Doing this requires modification of the formers in the wing and the fuselage to accommodate the box of the main gear wells. Gerado shows he had to cut into the formers above. Look at the pics closely, and use this thread and mine (linked through my builds in my signature) as a guide when you build yours
