The rest of the fuselage was very straightforward. The next section was a sort of hollow cone, and yes Carl I didn't use a connector strip joining the segment. I'm getting the hang of it but I still don't like it. The tail wheelwell was fit in using long tweezers, as was a very small hollowed out area where the tail hook will fit into. Here are the sections...

Outstanding, Ted. I'm delighted to see you at work on another masterpiece -- especially an FAA 1945-57 aircraft.

I hope you can get down to the convention next month and that you can bring some of your magnificent models with you.

Incidentally, we'll be passing through Avondale tomorrow afternoon en route to Cape May.

Don

Thanks Don. I'm hoping that I can get off. I won't be able to stay too long just saturday but who knows. Enjoy Cape May. I've been meaning to get back down before the fall sets in. Tipping the laser into the bay tends to get a little cold towards October. Anyways the rest of tonight's work is the rest of the tail feathers, easy sort of structures, they fir so tight that no fairings are needed.

Is this kit still available anywhere? I can't find Skyline Models on the Web.

Wings and things

It's been a little while since the last post. The progress had temporarily halted while building up the wings. Originally the wings are in 2 pieces, a top and bottom half that you sort of butt glue after forming a tentaive leading edge. I tried once just butt gluing it and it cracked open while trying to insert the little coolers and things that go into the leading edge. I then tried to use a sort of rolled half tube as a joing strip inside the leading edges and got the splits shown in one pic with the arrows. I then got the bright idea of joining the leading edges in psp 10 cutting off the tips at the wing fold line and making a joining strip to mate up the 2 wing parts. Jeremiah interesting includes the wing ribs with interior detail at the folds if you choose to build a bird with folded wings. Alot of words on to the pics...

Here are the little doodads that insert in the leading edges. It was a bit of a challenge when the wing was the entire length long but with the stubby root section they went in pretty easy. The root was then folded over the spars and glued to the fuse. The fit was pretty tight. There isn't a need for a fairing strip. The tip was built up in the usual fold join the edges then attach to the root section. Now off to build up the other wing...
