She's looking beautiful already. A very impressive build. Can't wait to see her finished. Well done!

Hi Thorst

The Zeppelin You will definitely know the image dimensions, but to others a sense of the magnitude of business

I am very interested in the building

Oh Lordy. Can you imagine what it'd be like climbing those ladders? I am SOOO not qualified for that job!

This is what I like about history--not so much the dates&places stuff, but the stories of the guys who did incredible things. It's why I model these things; and yah, I want one of these too when it's ready!

Thanks!

Thank you all!

I'm working hard on the gondolas. During the weekend I evaluated the bit of new data I got from the Zeppelin archive. Not as much as I hoped, but the framework for the side propellers should be ok now (important for the drive shaft position).
I'm a bit stuck at the parts for the gondolas' interiors, it's some kind of never-ending-story, and there are so few photos of the inside (almost only from wrecks).
Now the next week begins and 'real life' wants me back... I'll post when I have something new to show.

As for the history: Yes, airships are an amazing piece of history. Although I'm pacifist, those giant bombers of a century ago fascinate me a lot. It must have been a strange feeling to stand on the upper MG-nest and look over the artificial horizont of the own ship while traveling over the clouds, and search for hostile fighters.
It was a good experience to see original documents at the archive (but as I learned later, they were professional reproductions of the original papers) and to read in them.

Best regards,
Thorsten

Here's the Graf Zeppelin, 1/1000 scale, fits in the palm of the hand, executed in photoetched stainless steel.

Sure would love to see your Zeppelin done as a skeleton. BClemens has the laser etching machine to do it, too!

Graf Zeppelin, length 776 ft
1:144: 5.3 ft
1:48: 16.16 ft

Whee!

Perhaps paint a cloud front on the wall and then model just the forward part, poking out - just like that scene from the Zeppelin movie...

Control Car, Part I

Hello,
last week I finally finished the part sheets for the cars of the airship.

During the last days, I was able to start building the control car. It has a full interior with all details present, as far as the small scale allows. As the airship will "fly" in my room, hanging from the ceiling, it needs a crew, so I designed some easy to build 3-dimensional models (not just flat cut-outs). One person needs about 20 minutes to build which is ok for me. The control car is now closed, but the glass on the front is still missing as are some details. Together with the front motor car, the front car has about 100 parts.

Here are some pictures of the first construction steps.

Here are pictures of the figures and how they are placed in the car. They are about 12 mm small.

Then the ceiling was glued on, with the trusswork under it.

This is where I'm in the moment. Will finish the control car and then make the front engine car before I start the aft engine car.

Best regards,
Thorsten
