Long-overdue updates

Ok, so it got down to the wire on this build, and I ended up packing up the rest of the model and bringing it with me to New England to finish on a long-weekend visit with friends and family where I just in time finished the model to give to my father-in-law for his birthday. Here are the last assembly photos.

Collection of parts to add to the main fuselage:

I left the props and tail wheel flat but bulged the tires a bit for a hint of roundness since the tires on the B-17 are very round. The engines went together pretty nicely, and I attached the props with straight pins with silver heads to represent the prop hubs.

Here is a shot of the wings mounted to the fuselage, connection is nice and clean, and the fairing does a good job at joining and strengthening the wingroot.

Fiddlers Green B-17 Shoo Shoo Baby completed!

And here are the final shots. This came out to be a nice model, and a good size at 1:72. At the scale and with the limited time left to build, I used straight pins as the machine guns which give a good effect, if not entirely accurate. Just didn't have time to roll that many tiny tubes.

And presenting it to my father-in-law. He loved the gift and really appreciated the thought and effort put forward. That's the most rewarding part of giving a gift like this.

And here it rests on display in the china cabinet with the other little treasures of their home:

Thanks for watching!

Glad to see the cMags Aviation and Bourbon Company is back in production. That wing to fuselage joint IS very clean and precise and those engine nacelles sure do look neat all lined up.

Don

Later: Your concluding images popped up just as I posted my previous comment. Great photos of the airplane and the presentation ceremony. Shoo Shoo Baby looks right at home with the other family treasures.

... I just stumblin' in, cMags - I've never know what this nick included - but never mind - your B and the story behind it ... hats off! I like models with a story behind; it supports yourself and gives a special drive ...

with lovely greetings
the Wilfried

That turned out real nice. I'm glad he liked the gift. Just goes to show what can happen when a true craftsman builds something well.

Superb accomplishment, Chris!!

Yeah, when you do that, the words "is better to give than to receive" makes lots of sense and gives you a great feeling.

The B-17 is awesome! I shall try it... yeah.
