Halinsky spitfire again?
Well, I haven't had as much luck with this kit as it probably deserves, but in my defense it is a challenge in some ways that differs from other models that I've built, the first go around with the exposed merlin upper part went pretty good but there are so many cool versions of the spit I really wanted to still play with this kit....so, I thought I'd change the things I don't like about it, noticably the dark and overweathered apperance, as the main change. As I got into the recolor I thought about making a Mark IX rather than the V, although this would not be absolutely accurate I think can be possible with 4 bladed prop, small alterations of the fuse and cockpit and symmetric radiators under the wings making a feasible facsimile to the Mark IX. This is my favorite version of the spit, and one of my favorite aircraft as many share the same feeling for this beautiful plane. That millions of spit models have been made is true, but wanted to see what would come of this approach. With lighter colors and different markings, wearing the numbers of MH434...needless to say the most famous specimen likily of this plane with a great history...youtube has the discovery channel series on this plane...I set off on the unknown..progress is tentative ..but begun

Glad to see your aircraft factory back in production. This one will be a great addition to your stable (or hangar, as it were), Glen. You are certainly off to a good start.

Hi Don, the history of the Spitfire and the parallel development of the Merlin as a desperate race to keep up with similar development of first the Me 109 and the FW 190 shortly is very intersting to me, of course to me it's the Merlin engine that gave Allies air superiority over the ETO...

That is such a good kit you are working on. Worth every effort. You know, of course, that there is a Halinski Mk IX as well?
But I agree that it is quite expensive. So you will go it on your own. Great modeling experience! - L. |

Hello Glen,
I'm a little confused; a Spitfire building report under the flag of ships and watercraft; so I normally suspected a Seafire on a carrier... anyway - I will be a follower - the sound of a Merlin .... or a Daimler-Benz DB 601 ... With lovely greetings the Wilfried |

Oops Rick help! Oh well This project just happened, not originally intened to be a IX although if fails will go the other route..you're both right of course...but the spit was handy, scanned and partly done long time ago (that's my story anyway)

Here's present progress, the cockpit was stabilized from below with bond paper to put skins on without bend or twist if poss. By putting the aft two sections together and sliding over cockpit can pretty much see where the forward skin has to be. It works ok but have to trim here and there the formers so no stress on this juction. Fortunately it will also be supported by the huge wing fairings, and building up the forward section to try to mimic the shape of a IX
