1/33 Phonix D.I Orlik kit

This is the model that I'm entering in the WWI build contest on Swanny's site that starts today.. Should be interesting, as there are some excellent entries... plastic kits.. vacuforms.. scratch builds.. as well as paper. I know Ruben has entered.

Looking forward to seeing more of this thread.

Cutting those ribs would have been fun.

Well as I tend to update even the most mundane of progress, there will be a few posts..
Starting with...
The first part will be getting the interior framing done..

Cutting out the wood panels and gluing them up on the laser frames.

As I want more of a 3-d look to the ribs in the cockpit, I cut some thin strips from the surplus colors that they give for touch ups.

Very good start, Peter.
And. There are no mundane posts. I like as many as you can take the time to do. Always something to learn or admire.

cockpit area..

Little work started on the cockpit..
Diagrams..

Tools I use for keeping the blade sharp when cutting out thicker stock. Running the tip of the blade over the beeswax every few passes, makes a big difference on how easy the blade glides through the cut.

Some parts before gluing to the laser stock..

I went and scored the panel lines in the floor while the glue was still wet, which gave a nice indentation because of the softness of the damp piece.

Where I'm at as of now...

Superb progress Peter, I'm keeping track of it on Swanny's forum as well. You're certainly attracting positive reactions from the other modelers there! A respectable endeavor, and here's hoping all our other contestants do so as well!

Peter, could you explain the '"beeswax?" I'm interested in this, as I find the most trouble in cutting through thick stock.
