The detailing is simply excellent, Klaas, thank you for the extra pictures. The undercarriage is spotless and definitely something for me to aim for. Oh, and your English is fine

Perfect. The smooth spinners in particular. Would like to have a close-op view at them. Can you ?
I wonder how to prevent a 'shift' or 'jump' (how tell xlate this....) between two sections of the fuselage (or any other connection) not using seperate 'connecting-strips' instead of having the 'lips' directly on the section itself. I'll add a picture here (vanishes again when I clean that map later on): |

Thanks for your kind words gentlemen
Gerard, I enclose some extra pictures from the spinners. Close up they are not as smooth as you think. I glued the four concentric rings together, keeping one straight line for the seams, correcting where necessary. Like you, using inner tabs. I glued a toothpick in the back of the spinners correspondingto a hole in the engine construction. Makes display a bitmore fun and flexible. I was not satisfied with the result. So I ‘painted' the spinners with glue and started to sand them, from 100 to 180. Did that two times. After that I painted them. Looking back I should have used some kind of plaster to make them smoother.. I hope the pictures are good enough. I do not posess a camera that can take macro pictures, so I used my wife's telephone which has a reasonable camera |

Klaas,
What an exceptional build! I've been a fan of the Mosquito ever since I saw 633 Squadron as a kid. Dave |

Grand ! And not only because of its miniature. A Dutch contradiction which doesn't sort out in English.
I went to your 'lowest' link and admired the cellphone pictures over there (nice phone by the way). I could not find the scale of your Mosq. but when I see the close-up cardboard width the model cannot be too big and that is the reason I have to send you my well-meant laudation for the accurate seams (all-over!). The way you built these tiny rings of the spinners in particular. Luckily they were still slightly visible. More than once I considered to stucco a paper plane (the way you smoothed the spinner) as I used to do with my flying stuff in the past. The philosophy of 'hiding' the paper-modeler's "artwork" withheld me from doing so. The 'flat' tips at the top (backside) of your nacelles I solved by sanding them down as thin as possible. Before glueing of course... Who drew the Mosq. ? Your model I mean. Respectful greetings, Gerard |

Thanks Gerard :0
The kit was from Modelik. 1:33. Using stucco on the propellor caps is a very good idea, I should have done it. Also partly sanding parts of the nacelles would have been better. Good idea On my pile there is a night mossie, which I will build the coming years (I hope: will finish the Prince Of Wales first, then Yoav's F4, after that the a 1:200 Bismarck to go with the Prince), will definitely use your suggestions, thanks !!! |

Hello gentlemen,
I'm reading your posts with great interest as I am building the Orlik Mosquito myself at the moment. Your pictures, as well as from NH78 and a Spanish modelling site are very useful and provided me with a lot of inspiration (and the courage to try matching up with your skills....). Thanks to you all. I'm quite pleased with the accuracy of the model up so far, the only struggle is the cockpit canopy which does seem to fit nicely on the fuselage. Still figuring out how to solve this (especially the backpart) but it will come in due time. I hope to be able to share more information later on once I have created more backlog before starting a thread. Usually I do not have much time to spend on the model, let alone a design thread. Anyway, here are a few pictures of the work up so far. Good luck with your new projects!! All the best, Erik |
