F2A - Brewster Buffalo

Odd you should bring that up. I just found it this morning.
Brewster Buffalo | Aircraft |
From time to time I fly this aircraft in a flight simulation program called IL-2 1946. It's a hoot of a carrier plane with it's hand crank landing gear. Take a few seconds to get her trimmed and it terribly underpowered against the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero. But still, a hoot and a hand full. wc

I bet. What little i've seen on this plane makes it look like it would fly like a tank. The gear alone must weigh a ton. Some of the cockpit pics show a jumbled mess of rods and cables. kindof like controlling the beast was an afterthought. I bet the controls tried to rip themselves out of your hands!

Thanks CD for the finish on the airfoils. I like to clear coat all my builds to protect em. I like gloss and semi most. Was worried about matte clouding up on the lovely yellow!

ModelCard is now Modelik (has been for some time). Halinski also made a Buffalo: I do not know if it is still in print. You may wish to contact Slawomir Wojik at [email protected]

The Finns thought very highly of the Buffalo, describing it as very easy to fly and calling it a "gentleman's plane".

Halinski has issued two Buffalo kits. The first was published, I believe, in 1997 and showed a plane in Dutch markings. The newer kit (which I have, and it's a beauty) came out in 2008 and is a Finnish example in winter camouflage.

Cheers!

The earlier Halinski kit is very "old school" Halinski with 2mm thick bulkheads and "keel." The level of detail is quite low and it in no way compares to the superb model in Finnish colors that Chris describes. Go for the Finnish colors if you are going to purchase the Halinski model. Marek also did one in 1:50 that I enlarged to 1:33 with pretty good results (sorry, no photographic evidence) but it does not compare to the newer Halinski or KK models.

Just needs a prop now. Went ahead and glossed the yellow a little. She'll get another coat in a day or two.
