Here are some pictures of my Dassault Mystere IVA... Keep in mind that my designs were designed to be flyable. They can be built out of plain old paper, they are about the size of your palm and best of all they FLY!

When designing my paper planes I emphasize on mainly three things:

1) they must be semi-scale or better
2) They must be as light as possible (minimum number of parts)
3) They must FLY!

A bit similar to you, I sometimes realized that building stock kits wasn't enough for me anymore (it was all started by a beautiful article about superdetailing a Ar 196 plastic kit from Heller in a German aircraft journal), so I started scratchbuilding and designing my own kits.
Main reason was that I found errors in every kit that I started, leaving too much frustration to continue them. So now I build models which should be detailed, but most of all, they should be correct in what they show.

You’re exactly right! Custom builds are only meant to satisfy their creator... I never could find a kit that had exactly what I wanted, that's the biggest reason why I started designing my own kits. That way I can build them just the way I want them.

I have to say that there so much more to learn designing and building your own kit than just buying one, it much more rewarding also.

I just downloaded the F-84 Thunderjet from Jplanes. I like that they build fast, look good and fly! It's kind of like the appeal of the old Wheaties flyers.

BTW, do you plan to make your Semi-Scale Flying Paper Airplanes available?
