Smile Nieuport 21E1 - Av. Militar Marek/Pericles Rare Rapaints.

Hi people another piece of Brazilian military histore aviation.

Nieport 21 - "15 metros"

The Nieuport 21 was one of many representatives of Nie 17/27 family, this subvariant was designed by Gustave Delage in 1916, had basically the same structure as the Nieuport 17, but was fitted with an engine less powerful Clerget 9C and a semi open similar cownling to the Nieuport 11/16. The Nie 21 was designed primarily as a variant of advanced training fighter, but the urgent need for fighters during the year 1917 eventually put this subvariant on the front line. The Imperial Russia produced this model under license (but with an engine Le Rohne of 110hp) far more potent by DUX manufactures and used until the end of Tsarism, some specimens were used after the Russian civil war and the Soviet-Polish war of 1920 , Americans also purchased large quantities of the model used in France to train their pilots.

The legend of pic is a mistake, is very difficult to identify in pics the Nie 21, is easy to make confusion with Nie 11/16, the most proeminent feature in Nie 21 is a same cabane arrange of Nie 17. In my search I have a think to use a Nie 11 fuse with Nie 17 wings, but is a error, of old publications like profile, In windsock I found my suspicion, the only change is a engine and cowling but sometimes many Nie 21 have a cownling of Nieuport 17/23, so I decided use Der Kampfflieger Nie 11 Cownling and Engine...

Plastic kit represent Nie 21 of Arma de Aeronautica (The ancient Portuguese Air force), Brazilian Nie 21 is very close in apparence...

Nie 21 in Brazil

One of the first things that the French Military Mission noted in its premilinar report for the Ministry of War in 1919 when it was installed the need to organize the military might of the army, the navy had already begun to equip aircraft since 1916 and Army after the failures with the use of aircraft for military purposes in the Contested campaign in 1913, not much would I learn this new weapon of war, until the tide of World War I made it clear that the plane was one of the weapons of the future invariably.
The French brought from various equipment, a batch of 20 aircraft Nie21E1 for instruction, because the initial combat types of Aviação Militar were the SPAD 7 and Breguet XIV.

Is a museum semi replica of Brazilian Nie 21, only engine, cockpit, and the tail airframe is original, note the full cownling, in my build I use semi-circular (like a Nie 11) because the diference, not to be so like the Nieuport 17.

Use in Combat

All were based at Campo dos Afonsos of the Military Aviation School. At the outbreak of the revolution of 1924 in Sao Paulo, all units were moved to Mogi das Cruzes to fight the rebels. There were added Vickers guns and a rudimentary bomber hacks. Participated in the following pilots: Captain Alzir Mendes Rodrigues Lima, 1st Lieutenant Bento Ribeiro Carneiro Monteiro, Cicero Odilon Mafra Magellan and Abelardo Servílio de Mesquita, 2nd Lieutenant Sylvio Canizares da Veiga, 1st Sergeant Luiz Aurelio de Godoy and Vasconcellos, Thomaz Menna Barreto Monclaro and Adalberto Coelho da Silva, 2nd Sergeant Manuel Antonio Machado, 3rd Sergeant Synval de Castro e Silva Filho; between observers were Captain Amilcar Sérgio Velloso Pederneiras, 1st Lieutenant Vasco Alves Secco and 2nd Lieutenant Student Altivo Halfeld dos Santos. We met 21 observation missions, bombing and connecting the period 19-28 July. Being made during that conflict 21 assorted attack, reconnaissance, liaison and bomber. Known in Aviação Militar as the "Nieuport 15 Meters" because of wing area, after the revolution Nie 21 remained in service until 1930. A replica of this airplane with original components comprise the Aerospace Museum collection (MUSAL).

The fight in fuselage continue

I make a arrangement in the tabs because a fuselage formers for best fitting...

The fit is very well.

I made the seat, and cockpit leather ring...

After I build the cownling former and use a Derkampfflieger Nie 11 cownling. The pice fit perfect in marek Nie 17/23 fuselage. I believe some many others pieces fit good in Marek kit (like a cockpit), but in this exercise I use only pieces for cowling and engine...

Lower wings build and fit in the fuselage...

Continue...
