My understanding is that the difference between a DC-2 and a DC-3 is the engines and a longer fuselage, or is my memory as bad as it could get right now? It is 1989, right?

The DC-3 doesn't have the lights in the nose, and has a larger set of tail feathers, and the outer wings are longer.

The best way to see the differences would be for you to design a model of the 3. Then we could set it alonside your 2 and see the differences. My vote would be American or TWA, but any St. Louisan would get excited about an Ozark swallowtail. Put me down for a bundle.

Don't see models of theDC-3 in US airline liveries from the '30s.

Did the DC-3 have a more oval hull cross section?

YES!!! I was going to mention this issue. The 3 also had a bigger fin/rudder and rounded wing tips. Nacelles were also different due to different power plants. There are excellent DC-3 models out there to purchase. I can remember the GELI, the Möwe, the Fly Model and others. No need to get a new design of this airplane. Better to spend designing time on models that have never being modeled before such as the Cessna 180 both floats and land version. Monogram has a beautiful rendition of the "True Pilots Airplane" as they describe it on the box.

I agree with RickPink, lots of other DC-3 models out there. Besides, I doubt NASA ever flew them or there were ever any painted orange. Design time better spent on other models.

However, a Boeing 247 would be a nice match for this model.

NASA actually does have a DC-3 they still use, and I have seen them in orange. But, there are a plethora of DC-3/C-47's out there. And the DC-3 doesn't trigger a personal reaction for me like other planes do. I see Frank Luke's SPAD every day when I go to work. I'm also getting to see a lot of American Airlines heritage airliners as well. I may have to do a quick A319/20/21 to recreate a few of them.

If you do the DC-3, at least you've got Don's AA as given in his latest post #325 and the
NASA version. Though there are many DC3's out there, there isn't one here in your webstore.
You have done the DC-2 then why stop now when the two birds are closely related in design
and people would like to see and buy the model. See how your WW2 collection has grown.
