Main section sub assembly

Now that the fuselage frame is done, it is time to add the main sub assemblies. The reason for that is that the design has an inner skin that wraps around the structure. So if you forget to add those now, you will have a tough time ( or impossible without damage ) adding them later

The sub assemblies are:

- The cockpit floor and cockpit assembly
- Main wheel wells
- Nose wheel well
- center weapon recess bay ( this is were the center fuel drop tank fits )

The wheel bays and the center bay are easy to assemble and attach. The nose well has the attachment rails for the retract gear. The main wells show the rounded engine outer liner.

Pictures here.

Cockpit

Once completed with all the wells, it is time to add on the cockpit details. The assembly goes smoothly since the cockpit floor is open and access is easy.

Add the floor rails and rudder pedals. Then the support structure for the pilot seat. This is not an ejection seat, but a plain vanilla seat which is basically useless device it you had to jump out ( for any reason ). The pilot would have hit the vertical tail for sure ( it is huge in comparison to other aircraft of the time ).

The seat is conventional and similar to other types in which the pilot sits on the parachute.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7341.jpg

The side panels are simple, but fit well. Some of the levers and knobs are too small for me to build. I used drops of paint instead.

The control column is bent paperclip painted. I added it later on as its position ( per the kit ) on the floor is under the seat?

The instrument panel and anti glare shield on top are assembled, but not yet glued as I need to see how it fits with the rest of the parts. So far it just sits in place fine.

This is fun so far. Will see how the nose section comes up. I can see it will be a challenge.

Cheers

Isaac

A quick status

Shown here is what I have built so far. Sort of looks like a dinosaur in the museum.

Smile Center section skins

Added the cockpit side inner walls. I chose not to add the cut out side panels as provided in the kit. First it looked too unrealistic and second, it can not be seen once the model is completed.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7360.jpg

Also, I added plywood blocks for the main gear strut attachment points on the frame.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7362.jpg

There is an inner skin that is marked grey color. I have no idea why? Once glued , you can not see any side ( inner or outer ). But just in case I colored areas around the cut outs. I think the purpose of this inner skin is to make the outer one smooth.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7363.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7364.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7366.jpg

Start by gluing it on the bottom. The skin will join on top in an open seam. I suggest you add a scrap card stock tab on top to round it a bit.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7368.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7369.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7370.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7372.jpg

I then dry fitted multiple times the outer skin. It is joined on the bottom, so I applied glue to the top and sides as well as the bottom joining. No glue in other places, or it will wrinkle the skin.

When all is dried, I cut out the openings. However, you can do it when all the fuselage is assembled.

Add weights under the cockpit floor ( over the nose gear well ). You do not want a tail seater!

Cheers

Thumbs up Fuselage sections

Assembly at this point goes forward and aft. I elected to build all the aft sections, but the forward ones have a sharply down sloping nose that requires care and will be built later.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7384.jpg

The section right behind the main fuselage section is glued first without the former so I can glue onto the tabs and press from the inside. The frames are added later.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7386.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7387.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7388.jpg

The rear sections are all conical and have formers at either end and are joined former to former.
Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7390.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7391.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7395.jpgFocke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein in 1/33 scale Quest-dscf7396.jpg

Then they are glued to the adjoining section in front as marked. The vertical tail will go on top.

Neat work Issac. It looks to be better designed than the ME1101?

Time to see what some of the pieces may look.

I placed the tail frame and the wing frames. None are glued yet.
