Boeing 299

I picked the FG Boeing 299 for my next build.
https://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models...aft/Boeing-299
It's the prototype of the B17 Flying Fortress
Ofcourse I'm gonna pimp it, FG models are quite easy to build, but this kit has TMHO better art-work than other FG models I've seen, The design is by John Dell.

The plane had no camouflage paint, so I printed it on Red River metallic paper, but it shines too much, so I sprayed a layer of matt acrillic varnish, and now it looks much better.
I want to make some rivetting, and got me one of these; ?????
It comes with 4 different sized wheels, I had to customise it a bit, you could'nt see where the wheel was going, so I sanded a bit of the plastic

Next thing was to figure out how to apply that to the back of the paper;
So I printed the model on velum or copying paper,then looked for the fit on the front-side, by punching some holes in it I could find the exact position on the back and glued it with tape ...

You're putting some fine detail into this one, Billy.

It will go well with your silvery DoX and B-51.

Hello Don, Actualy I have some more "silver" birds in my showcase, but I realy like the " ICBTP" effect of printing on metallic paper.
I'm building this model using Red River paper for the first time, it is a little bit thinner than the stuff I always use.
The model has no formers, maybe I have to add some.
Here's the first parts of the fuselage, I don't use the tabs as printed in the model, but I glue a strip on the back, it fits much nicher that way.
Painted the inside grey,it will show when I make transparent windows; thats why the gun turrets and the nose are build inside-out to make the molds

That is awesome Billy! I love the FG B-17 models, and this version that John did is amazing. Are you doing a cockpit interior too?
