Wings attached

Attaching the wing outer panels is simple as they are butt joined. However, in order to get a proper dihedral, I had to tilt them up a bit and that opened a gap as can be seen

To fix the gap I cut a thin strip from the spare colored part and covered the gap.

It is beginning to look like a plane.

Smile Control surfaces

It is time to attach the rudder, elevators and aileron surfaces. I glued them in position as is. Only noticeable deflection is to the ailerons ( I made sure that the control column is tilted correctly.

Two pilots of aerobatik team "Żelazny": Lech Marchlewski and Piotr Banachowicz died in a plane crash on Air Show Radom 1-2. 09. 2007.

Honor their memory.

Very unfortunate and spectacular mid air collision.

Smile Landing gear and aero balance surfaces

The landing gear is simple. Here are the parts.
Zelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8510.jpg

The wheels are laminated cardstock and the struts are rolled around a paperclip.

The tail wheel is very small and for now as you see I did not connect the strut thru like a fork. That will be later.

The ailerons have a paddle like aerodynamic balancer as most aerobatic planes do.
Zelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8521.jpg

Here is what it looks like now

Zelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8525.jpgZelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8527.jpgZelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8528.jpgZelazny- Zlin 526 AFS Quest 1/33 scale-dscf8529.jpg

There is something about the red color of the plane and the lighting I use that really messes up the pictures. I tried different setting, will probably have to find another room to photograph it.

Anyhow

That is all for now

Isaac

Looking great Isaac! Such a neat little plane, and a good backstory too.

Yes it is a neat plane and an interesting story as well.

I am close to finishing the plane.
I have to finish the spinner / propeller and then vacuform a clear canopy . That will not be easy.

I have the next Zelazny plane. It is the Zlin 50 from GPM. I may start that build and make both canopies together.

Cheers

Isaac
