Actually now that I think of it the Wyvern's record sounds a lot like my flight record during my "vacation" in SE Asia a few years back.,,.

It did a little better than the Vixen which had "only" 38% loss rate.
And compared to the Scimitar, well, please find out!
But this was a prop plane.

For carrier operations during the 50s that record is not as bad as it first sounds. Especially considering when they first went aboard a carrier the engines would flame out on launch. and they also served in combat during the Suez crisis.

One of the flame-out crashes you refer to saw the pilot make history- the first ever ejection from a submerged aircraft! True story!

There is a piece of footage showing a Scimitar overrunning the landing strip on the carrier and crashing in the sea. The pilot did not get out however. Eerie
