Those early Navy jet jockey's must have had they're hearts in their gobs every time they launched and landed on a carrier deck. Dodgy catapults, barely enough thrust and poor throttle response- brave men indeed.

I have a good friend who was a Fox Four and "Lawn Dart" driver. He told me that his flight instructors used to tell horrendous tails about those early jets "flaming out" at the most inopportune moments.

It was almost as scary as riding a bus in downtown Sydney is these days....

Technical question- are turboprops the same in operation as jets, especially the early ones? Are they prone to similar type of failure?

Shudder! Don't say things like that. You'll frighten the children.

I'm pretty sure that by the time turboprops came along a lot of the early problems with jets had been resolved. I flew the Hughes OH-6A in Vietnam in 1970 for 699 hours and never had the first blink with any of the turbojets in that little hummingbird. However they did not deal with RPG rounds very well.

Like Sean Connery said in "The Hunt for Red October": "Chom thingch here don't mix very well with bulletch".

Here is the finished model (without some required adjustments).

Very nice Bruno, I will need a magnified version to see where improvements could be.

Lovely Wyvern bloke. You've mastered the complex undercart too I see.

And your Scots-Russian impersonation was spot-on!
