Give it time and they will.With "green" taxes plastic models might become very expensive.

They already are, I have some very nice cars that I have decided not to build, they will be left behind as investments for family.

That makes two of us. Purchased mine when Round2 reissued the old AMT/MPC kits and they were actually reasonably priced in hobby shops here. I couldn't afford them now.

Here too, very expensive. And sumale paints, putties, glues, etc. That's why I love paper, a couple of sheets, a simple PVA and a pair of pencils give you an excellent model.
