The difference between the old and the new is crazy... at this scale you can't really say the old models are bad either.

About revisiting old models, I have a question. How do you design wing root fairings for any aircraft? These parts are the only ones I find quite difficult to design when I upgrade your older designs.

EDIT: I've seen Kyofu in your catalogue, Nr 209
The wing root fairings are indeed difficult. You always need to find a compromise between the curvature from wing to fuselage in one direction and the curvature over the wing itself in the other direction.
If you have that, I usually draw half of the fairing that should be connected to the wing (from the top view) and move it to align with the part connected to the fuselage (on the side view). (or vice versa). Perhaps the picture makes it more clear.

The Kyofu name in the list is actually not correct. Model 209 is actually the Shiden Kai (N1K2-J) shown in the comparison picture.

Falco's right. The older N1K2 is still pretty decent to my eye. It just lacks the refinements (wing root fairings, landing gear, etc) of the newer model. Do you think 'Rex' will be do-able Bruno? I hope so.

Thanks,

and do-ability is not really the problem. The differences between both planes made me want to do something else.

Thanks for the explanation, Bruno. I hope this will help me in the future recolors and upgrades.

A beauty!

It was the distinctive long nose with the gun ports and the shape of the canopy that provided the clues.
