To me it looks like most of G4M2 bombers had this tail. It's permanently open for some kind of Jap 50cal or 20mm cannon.
Tail gunner of G3M1 had this view Excellent film with G3M1 and very slow walk around https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=x4xEaF7H1AA More info in this post. Those guys do some good research imho: https://forum.warthunder.com/index.p...-model-errors/ Lots of good drawings here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=57252.0 |

G4M Rikko Tail Cones
Bruno –
The tail cone of the G4M took several configurations. The early models of the G4M1 had a closed tailcone with a narrow slit that only allowed the gunner to raise and lower the 20mm gun. He had to rotate the tailcone in order to fire at an angle. This was very cumbersome, so in many cases the rear of the tailcone was removed to allow the gunner to aim the gun freely. On the Model 24, the tailcone was split to allow a wider field of fire. In the case of the transport (G6M1-L) the tailcone was glazed, but fully enclosed I hope these images from Osamu Tagaya, Mitsubishi Type 1 Rikko ‘Betty’ Units of World War 2, Oxford UK: Osprey Publishing, 2001, will help. 1. Sheesh. If you do decide to go ahead with this one Bruno with the input of both Don and Karol you'll have the most accurate G4M model in history!!

Karol - Looks like we posted at the same time. I really appreciate those links. The film is excellent, and the War Thunder discussion and SAS drawings (and complete list of G4M/G6M variants) are very helpful. Many thanks for providing this material. Don

I can think of two very nice detailed G3M,one in 1:33 from GPM and 1:50 by Marek.I did build one from Maly with Okha bomb (it's hanging in front of me)-that one is good but has some small issues.
As for films I'm finding recently that there is surprisingly large amount of original Japanese footage posten on YT,problem is all titles are n Japanese or Chinese,if you can't read it you can't type into search and you won't find it.So far I found at least 5 channels full of footage, some are duplicates, some are of really bad quality but some are incredibly informative and useful. Also there seems to be a fair number of TV films made about aerial part of war in Asia, mostly Taiwanese productions but Japanese ,Chinese and Korean films can be found. Some very good, some low budget and all of them very patriotic to whoever made it.Still very interesting to watch imho. |

Anyone have the latest catalog of Bruno's models? I can't find it and my last one is from 2017. I would like to make a little bigger order for the next recolors ... ;-)
