Bruno,
i collected a large documentation for this plane and i can share something with you.
Let me know via PM what you need and for which version.

Best, Nando

Need to tweak a few parts, especially the bottom of the floats before I can release the model.
The shape of the hulls is very strange, with the bow part that forms a sort of tunnel, while the stern retains a traditional form a "V". But the keel line is continuous from bow to stern. I enclose one of your images, edited to illustrate the concept.

I hope this could help. Your rendition of this plane is outstanding and i can't wait to add it at my collection.

thanks Nando for the information.

That strange shape is exactly what I tried to obtain, but by gut feeling, not by mathematical calculation. it turned out a bit messy. It is close, but not close enough.

A little more testing to do.

I really wish I had the time and the means to do so.

Just completed a DC 10-30 model. If I have the permission, i will try to repaint this model into BA or KAL. One thing I want to ask: how do you paint the belly part?

Bruno I try help you around versions about SM-55

Italo Balbo made a two trips with SM-55, one this the final destiny is Brazil, with a full squadron of SM-55A.

The only diference from this picture is a enclosed canopy. After this fly Brazilian Navy purchase from Italy the Balbo squadron, SM-55 used in Constitution Revolution in 1932 by Brazilian Navy for strategic bomber (first time in latin america) look this plans.

In AN-MB exist a evidence of SM-55 painted with italian colonial cream with "escafos" bottom in red...

The publication is a magazine "Força Aerea" september of 1999 issue but the "escafos" is wrong (rounded razorback in front)

SM-55 is operated by a number of civilian hands, in United States, Canada, Alitialia and single operator, is the case of João de Barros a brazilian aviator, try the cross of atlantic with SM-55A "Jahú". Is very important say the only SM-55 preserved in the World is a João de Barros plane in "Asas de um Sonho - Wings of Dream" Museum, a SM-55A with open cockpit and a great fuel reservatory for the cross.

Aeroflot sample of SM-55

The "M" version is very closed with A but have open cockpit, four gunner position and integral rack for bombers or two torpedos.

Italy use in Etiopa this type...

The version of subject from Bruno build is a SM-55X a final development of series with special engines for second atlantic cross, is all metal plane with rounded scafos...

Romenia used in WWII a custom version of SM-55X (is the last operator of the type)

For modelling the real diferences for made a different SM-55 is "escafos" (floats), nacelle engine, cockpit and gunners positions. I hope help.

Thanks for the info.

just to illustrate my concern: In the attached file you find the profiles of the floats of the S55X version based on three different plans I found. Not two of them are alike. So which one is the most correct? I took the middle one (blue)

For the 55, 55A and 55M version, it is not entirely clear yet which one had a closed cockpit and which one not.

Bruno.

For me the blue version is very close to real "X" version.

About open or close cockpit, X version and derivates (include a Romenian machine and some comercial versions) are close canopy, A and M no, with exception of Balbos airplanes adapted for flying across the ocean in the case a A version transformed in military use by Brazilian Navy.
