Sorry if I misled you Bruno. The White 'Cold War' livery was very much a thing of the '60s. By the '70s common sense brought the proper cam back, so I doubt that the Buccaneer, Jaguar or Tornado ever wore it, but there definitely were white Javelin, Lightning, early Phantom and of course, all the V-Bombers. I saw them all at RAF Akrotiri (Cyprus), the not so well known RAFG airbase. By the time I moved to Bruggen the cam was back on.

As for the Laarbruch Banana Jets ... I never saw one. I was just aware of their presence, just up the road. Being in the same regiment (21 Sigs), we often fraternized with all the other RAFG based Pongos, but we were quite aloof from the Penguins. The pilots were all Rodnies of course, and lived in a different world.

Translation ... Pongo = Army = Where the Army goes, the pong goes.
. Penguin = RAF Ground crew = All flap and no fly.
. Banana Jet = Buccaneer = Just stand back and look at it.
. Rodney = Officer = Dunno why, but it was a tri-service handle.

Aaaah, happy days indeed. As we half expected a Russian A-bomb at any time (1st strike wins the game), at the end of every day, we spent a lot of time celebrating (Hic) that we were still alive.

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

I guess they all had squadron markings Bruno, but I was not aware of them. As I said, Rodneys lived in a different world to us, and their Kites were just a noisy background distraction. The only "Important" plane in my life was the VC-10 that called into Belize International Airport every Friday. That bird was our only way in or out of the place. Out being the preferable direction.

Cold war aside though, I'd still like models of the kites I used to jump out of.
Herky-bird I've now got, but Hastings, Beverly, and Argosy were what I learned to jump from. Surely Paras are the only people on Earth that loved the fat old BEV, but then again, we rarely had to land in them.

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

Many thanks for the Lightning. I should be able to start it tomorrow. If I finish the Bear first.

111 Sqn. rings a bell somewhere ??

Of course, The Black Arrows from RAF North Weald. Just a few miles from where I lived as a lad. The forerunners of the Red Arrows. Jet black Hawker Hunters that performed the first ever (and still unbeaten) 16 plane barrel roll. and a 22 plane loop.

We didn't need to go to their shows (but we did) 'cos they were forever rehearsing over our area.

The Red Arrows probably could beat their record, but the just ain't got enough planes. 111 were a fully operational unit. Not just a display team.

Johnny.

PS: Some more for the wish list ... Canberra, Nimrod, and have you ever tried 1:300 Helicopters? Now there's a challenge, eh?

I can't follow anymore. the list becomes way too long. I can't stand the pressure anymore.

as far as the helicopters are concerned, not really my "cup-o-tea", certainly not at that scale.

getting started on the Phantom. (my youngest daughter helped me choose the models for this weekend)

I finished the RAF F-4 Phantom, although I must admit that I messed up the build a bit. There were some papermodeler gremlins making it difficult.

I put two versions of the same model in the PDF. One with normal thickness lines (at the bottom) and one with finer lines. The latter can be seen on the pictures. With a inkjet printer these lines can hardly be seen.

Hope you like it.
