What surprise will come next? the Mediterranean, Black Sea, China or Japan Sea or the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean? Or maybe a monster from the Caspian or an eaglet from the Volga? |

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
Don't know yet what will be next (although a certain person has been waiting very long already) In the meantime a simple recolor of the Sunderland: in RAAF colors (sorry color FS24097 or something like it) B |

Didn't know the old porcupine wore so many liveries. I was only familiar with your initial RAF cam offering 'cos that's the way Airfix depicted it. Personally the only ones I ever saw were the pure white Coastal Command ones that were maintained on the Medway slipways ... along with their PBY-5A companions.
When they started building the Princesses (Hint, hint) they completely blotted out the smaller craft, and eventually crowded them off the ramps for good. After that the old war horses were only seen on the river, but they soon retired and disappeared completely. The Princesses seemed to take root there for years though ... until they eventually broke them up. I believe that at least one of them did actually fly a few times, but I never saw it. Should it be of interest, the Coastal Command PBYs were all white too ( No need for cam in the '50s ), but again, there are countless other variations to be considered for recolours. Having a bad day so nothing got cut out today. Attempted a bit of snippin' on a KoolWheelz Hot Rod, but couldn't control the scissors, so I had to give in and read a magazine. Even that is frustrating as I have great trouble separating glossy pages.

OK,OK, so I'm getting the Medway (Shorts) and the Solent (Saunders Roe) mixed up. I'm getting old and memories tend to blend. It was a long time ago right! But as a lad me an' me Dad got around all over the South of England on our bikes. Biggin Hill Battle of Britain Day and the Farnborough Airshow were regulars every year. With Hornchurch and North Weald RAF stations less than an hour away, I was allowed to visit them unaccompanied, and often did after school.
Strange though ... my old Dad was the keenest aircraft spotter I ever knew, but he flatly refused to ever go up in one. He paid for my first flight, in a Dragon Rapide, but he wouldn't stay aboard after the engines started.

Are the differences between the mk III and the mk V notable enough? (different engines)
I'm thinking of french Sunderlands (mk III in the 40ies, mk V in the 50ies).
