Musicman's Re-Paints To Honor War Veterans

I'm starting a new and on-going thread to showcase the work of forum member Gary Dare (better known on here as Musicman) who's heart and re-painting skills are definitely in the right place. He has done numerous re-paints of Fiddlers Green designs commemorating worthy causes like War Veterans, Breast Cancer Awareness, Memorial Day and Arbor Day.

Kicking off with this one- Piper J-3 Cub for Vietnam War Veterans. A bit out of my comfort zone regarding scale, but to do this in 1/100 would have made Gary's re-paint additions too small to read. The scale is about 1/56.

I'll be doing builds of Musicman's other re-paints in between my other projects and will add them to this thread as I go along.

Anyhoo, I hope you like the Cub; and MichaelS: this one's for you buddy.

For one of the few times in my life words utterly fail me my most excellent friend. To wake up to this is just heart rendering.

GG your cub is especially poignant to me. When I was in high school I was in the Civil Air Patrol. Before I entered my US Army flight training I had logged about 30 hours in a Taylorcraft similar to yer Cub. It was even yeller.

I am so glad that I have lived beyond the 70's & 80's in the US. When I returned from my SE Asia Vacation in 1971 I and all my brothers were pariahs in this country. After the first Gulf war (isn't it particularly sad that we actually have to number our wars) things began to change. Now peeps fall all over themselves thanking me for my service.

Kind of sad to me now that I am regarded as some sort of hero for some of the things i did so many years ago. My wife says that I am really just a reminder to this country of all the other young boys who didn’t come home.

On top of post, yesterday my nephew, who i haven"t seen in 28 years came for a visit. He brought with him “rubbings” from the Black Wall in Washington of some of those boys. His father, my younger brother was killed by a drunk driver in 1990. His mother cut off all ties with his father’s side of the family. He and his sister grew up not knowing why his grandparents and his Unc had been taken away. We had a wonderful time yesterday getting caught up.

Thank you so much my most excellent friend and all the others on this forum who I now consider part of my world wide family.

MS (or Warlord Three Zero)

ps. Not a bad job on that kit. I am purdy sure that there are too many ribbets on the cowl but we will just keep it between us.

To Garry,

I'm honored that you are building my re-paints
and posting them for all to see. You have done a beautiful
job building the J-3 Cub for the Vietnam War.
And it's very touching that you dedicated it to
MichaelS for his service to our country.
I am happy that I sent you my re-paints to build.

And for MichaelS,,, God Bless you for your service.
I am a Vietnam vet, and my Dad was a WWII and
Korea war vet. He was my inspiration for doing
these re-paints for vets. I grew up learning about
aircraft from my Dad. And he flew just about
every aircraft the Navy had back then.

Best Regards,
Gary ( musicman )

Music Man's Repaints

Rata,
This is N E A T !

Gary Dare,
Thank you and more creative energy to you.

Michael S,
Planes of Fame Chino, California on the first Tuesday of the month (except May and December) at 10:00AM holds a veterans Coffee Klatch: free coffee, doughnuts, and museum admission for veterans and guests.

Also, today, the B-17 Combat Crewmembers and Wingmen's (CC&W) Organization will hold their meeting. Planes of Fame provides the meeting room and museum entrance to veterans and their guest free. They offered the room when the B-17 CC&W could no longer afford the Long Beach airport meeting room.

Note:
I have been a volunteer driver to and from the B-17 meetings for over 35 years.; establising wonderful friendships, however now time has taken its toll.
