Not to mention Dornier flying boats and at least one Ju-88.
The War

Reading of the B-24's dogfighting exploits reminds me of an image our oldest son sent when he was on active duty as a USMC aerial navigator. His squadron was involved in a number of experiments, including mounting Sidewinder missiles under the wings (can't confirm that they ever actually fired them). He sent me a picture of the test aircraft in flight with this laconic caption: "KC-130 configured for air-to-air."

Look for post 588

One model per (non-working) day

A free and very nice C-141B, and Café adapted it to be a C-141A (Short fuselage)

Thank you Bruno and Carlos!

that is indeed a (optional) wing spar. It is designed to be put about at 1/3 of the wing chord. the little arrow always points upward towards the fuselage.

Actually no. The Navy already had some 167 Liberators so by that time. The autumn of 1943 was when the USAAF transfered all their ASW tasks to the Navy along some 45 B-24s (the AAF Antisubmarine Command was discontinued on 31 august 1943).

/nitpicking my own comment.
