Gimli Glider story for is an example of too many people paid to be responsible for the same things but when things go wrong suddenly it's nobody's fault.

it's not just metric vs imperial. even within the imperial systems things can go wrong. like the laser test with the space shuttle where feet and nautical miles were mixed up

Another misshapen due to wrong units.
CNN - Metric mishap caused loss of NASA orbiter - September 30, 1999
Bottom line use consistent units, if Imperial convert everything to inches, and the fractions to decimal and you will be fine.
If you are using the scales of the dark side from p1@5+1( (1/48, 1/72 or 144) imperial are fine.
