Regarding Post #15692:
Interesting and beautiful airplanes! I have no information on the German and Swiss aircraft, but BruNos 3165 and 3166 are in the markings of Escadrille de Chasse de nuit (night fighter squadron) ECN I/13. Both are in the Vichy markings of white fuselage stripe (already applied to Potez 63 series aircraft as an IFF measure to differentiate them from Messerschmitt 110s, as pointed out by Jan Kytop), white surround to the fuselage roundels, and red-and-yellow striped engine nacelles and tail surfaces. The profiles also illustrate that there were variations in the markings, sometimes even within a single unit. BruNo3167 has the entire tail on red and yellow, while 3166 has only the vertical tail surfaces painted, but also has a yellow nose. ECN I/13 was formed from the 1st Squadron of GCN (Groupement de Chasse de Nuit, or Night Fighter Group) I/13 in January 1940. 10 May 1940, the unit was attached to the Night Fighter Group (GCN) of the ZOAN (North Air Operations Area), which was formed for the aerial defense of northern France, and based at Meaux-Esbly for the night air defense of Paris. During the May-June 1940 period, it was based at various airfields. After the Armistice, ECN 1/13 operated in the defense of Metropolitan France and was based at Nîmes-Garons airfield in southern France, northwest of Marseilles. I THINK BruNo 3165 is aircraft C.198, No. X-967. If so, it was the aircraft flown by the squadron commander, Captain Treillard, in May-June 1940. I like the fact that this project so far involves Belgian, Brazilian, Mexican, French, Thai, U.S., Canadian, Polish, Australian (and probably other) model builders and designers. Quote:
For the German and Swiss models, these were more like test and evaluation models. The German one may have been used for training as well (possibly by JG.105). The second Swiss model was a 633 version, also available now

Lots of beautiful international 631s!
Through the good offices of Administrator Rick Steffers, I was able to correct the historical record by altering my post #15667 to incorporate the correction provided by Jan Kytop regarding the white IFF stripe on Potez 63 series aircraft: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/6...post15667.html Don |
