Mirage 2000 MSModel 1/33

My latest “shopping visit” was to Answer. They have been very productive, and many of their kits are appealing! I got a few kits of their series – Answer/Angraf/MP and MS. The kits are clearly not to the same standard but most of my choices should make it to my workbench, in the near and not so near future. The MS kits in particular look very well designed and produced. The Mirage 2000 is such a case. We all know that, also regarding paper kits, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So, let’s see how this one tastes.
As always, the first pictures show the kit. It includes 8 pages of coloured assembly diagrams and 10 A4-sized pages with close to 800 parts. I’m not sure about the exact number, as some parts are printed twice, to serve as spares. Anyway, there is no lack of detail. Regarding the colours, maybe the darker grey should be more bluish. Paper quality looks good. At least, it fits my taste. As you can see in the last picture, I got the laser cut set for structure parts. It will spare much cutting work…

Yep, I think the lasercut set was a good move. That's a LOT of formers there...

There are lots of pieces. That will keep you busy.

Looks like a very good kit.

As you know I also have this model and I am very curious to see how good this model is with your build.

Welcome aboard
The kit includes 3 external tanks. The laser cut formers fit very well, with no need for sanding to put them in the correct positions, at the joints. That’s a good indication for the plane itself, which has a lot of structure.
The larger tank noses are not modelled to my taste. I’d prefer a solution with either more petals or, preferably, with one or two extra sections so that the petals would be smaller and the joints less conspicuous. Another oddity is that the fins are canted upwards. According to the pictures that I have seen (after assembly, unfortunately), they should be canted downwards. I’ll probably have to reposition them…

As almost always with long and slim cylinders, I delaminated the skin part and added a rolled paper cylinder inside, complete with a tapered nose to serve as a good base to glue the nose petals.
Regarding the pylons, the laser cut parts are, yet again, very useful. Some of them would be very tricky to cut properly.

I am always curious why fighter planes carry so many missiles now a days. When was the last time that there was an air to air combat?

Anyhow, The Mirage family including the 2000 series was still a product of 1960 strategies. So more guns and missiles needed. I love external loads.

On the modeling side, great job on the missiles.

me personally, I do not like petals for the drop tanks

Enjoying your build.

Isaac

Good start Ricardo. Very smart to start with the "horrible" work, which makes it more satisfying when you finally start the real work .

Cheers,
Erik

Thanks for the comments

@ Isaac – I find the petals adequate on the missile noses. On the large tank noses, the solution is not to my taste, either, as indicated in a previous post. Regarding the number of missiles, the lack of extensive aerial combat in recent years is surely fortunate but cannot be taken for granted! I guess that the last major aerial combat occurred in 1982, over the Bekaa valley. Who knows what lies ahead. Better be armed to face a bad future, while hoping that it will never materialize…
@Erik – you know that I always start the kits with this kind of assemblies

Todays pictures show some disparate details that should be self-explanatory: main gear doors, some work on the cockpit and nose.
