3D printing becomes very tempting.

But hey, can it also print in "paper"?

Let's see, 45 grams at 27 grams per ounce would be 1.67 ounces. That sounds light enough to consider a flying version, maybe even lighter than paper. I just assumed that it would be heavy.

Good question S&P..!! Would be possible but only if the paper roller could melt..

Humm i'm not sure it is lighter than paper ..i weighted paper model having quite the same size or volume.. the weight is roughly half and around 25 to 30grams
In hand it feels not to be flyable

density comparison

Ok let's do some density comparison to assess for a flying version..the 3D print model is at 1:133 scale.
The volume calculated from the 3D model is 71.2cm3 with a 45g mass the 3D print model has a 0.63 g/cm3 density..
Extrapoled from the 3D model, the real plane has a volume of 169000000 cm3 with a empty mass of 12,3 Tonne and max take off mass of 18.6 Tonne let's assume a mean of 15.5 Tonne, so the real A/C has a 0.09 g/cm3 density..

Not taking into account the Reynolds number for air viscosity at the reduced scale, so the 3D print model is 7 times heavier than the real A/C.. this confirm my feeling of none flyable version

Hey Guys,
you actually CAN print this one in paper. I just stumbled across the MCOR 3D printer. It basically prints on regular office paper and than cuts and glues the sheets to form a model.
Check out Mcor Iris 3D Printer - How it work (Mcor Technologies) - YouTube

Cheers
Jan

Upgrade trial Version V4 at 1:100 scale

Here it is,
After nearly 1 year and a half where i start to scratch my hair when i wished to built this plane, this my last trial of the whole fuselage (Without internal section former) in 1:100 scale - a lot of livery detail have been added and optimisation of the cockpit part was performed.
2D Design of the all plane is finished.. i have to test it in a complete trial assembly using internal formers as the plane section is not cylindrical.. next to come in the following months..!
Happy new year to all

Version V4 at 1:100 scale

Here it is,
I finally made it.. this is the last assembly i made one month ago..
Next build will be done using brillant photographic paper to emphasize livery reality..
