Great story and lifetime memory John. What a great tribute idea.

I grew up in the early 60's in Los Altos/Mountain View near NAS Moffett Field watching the SP-2H's rotate on their patrols They soon re-equipped with P-3s. When I moved to Southern CA, I discovered Travel Town in Griffith Park (huge - like Central in NY) where they had a small aircraft display and one was a P2V-5. Some years ago, the City of LA decided to restore Travel Town to its train roots and gave the aircraft to museums.

There is hope for P2V models to come!

Paul

Paul - Take a look at the P2V-6 on page 11 of the Neptune Profile 204.

Both engine off, props feathered and flying on onlt the J-34s......... neat picture.

OK.......... after much internet searching I found two builds of the Neptune in paper form........ specifically the ASP radome. And I was right........ petals is the way to go, or so it seems these guys thought so.

Our Own Boats (Deckape) did the CFM Verlag Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune........ on WW2aircraft.net

cfm Verlag P2V-7 Neptune scale 1/50

with pictures of how that radome was designed. And how he built it.

And another by zec whom built the Hobby Model Nr.96 P2V-7 Neptune in 1/33 scale on kartonbau.de (OMG 1/33 you got to be kidding me!! 1/48 make a huge model... 1/33 make a HUMONGOUS model!!!!!)

http://www.kartonbau.de/forum/hobby-...f8/index3.html

with picture of both the cfm Verlag and Hobby Model radome and even a comparison between them. And how he built it.

I'm tossing my feeble attempt at designing this piece of aggravation and will use this technique used by these model designers. I'm still not sure how well the compound curves will work out but at least I'll be using something that is at least build-able and looks like a radome.

So my hopefully completed APS-20 radome WILL look familiar to some of you because I am copying this technique. (which looks like Hobby Model copied cfm Verlags attempt)

IF anyone has a problem with this please speak now or FOREVER hold your peace.

But I have to admit......... there ain't too many ways to create this part from paper. Carving the SOB outta wood would be easier!!!!

john

Gotta go now need to find out how much Hobby Models P2V-7 Neptune is gonna cost me..................

That P2V-6 photo is awesome. One of my favorite profiles.

Thanks!
