Looking for a Caribou airplane
Hi,,,
Does anyone know if there is a nice easy to build paper model of the Caribou aircraft. Preferably the U.S.A. Viet Nam version. I'm Looking to build one for a friend to take to his squadron reunion. Thanks, Gary |

I am working on it. Unfortunately making an easy to build model out of all those curves and angles isn't that easy.

I'd like to see one in Vietnam-era Army markings. Until the USAF took over the Caribou aircraft, an Army Caribou did a daily commuter run that brought us our mail at Vinh Binh Airfield, Tra Vinh, in Vinh Binh Province in the Delta, where I was advisor to a Vietnamese infantry battalion. I do not remember all the stops on the circuit, but they included Tan San Nhut, Binh Hoa, and Vinh Binh. I took the Caribou peddler freight to Saigon a few times. Once, I fell asleep, slept through the Vinh Binh landing, and had to ride all the way around the circuit again before I could get home. Another time, one of the landing gear struts wouldn't come down and the pilot flew some wild maneuvers to shake it loose. All in a day's work. Aviation in Viet Nam in the 1960s was kind of like the old Terry and the Pirates comic strip, including the WWII-era C-46 Commandos, C-47s, and mysterious guys flying unmarked aircraft of various kinds.
