My suggestion is to build in 1/33 scale if you want to improve your building skills. The parts are larger and easier to form. The 1/100 scale and smaller are specialty models and few have any interior or detail. So make a choice.

Cool Some cockpit details

Added the forward glare shield, gun sight, center console with instrument panels. Notice the clear inner windshield in the center ( it is designed to protect the rear occupant in case the canopy opens up in flight.

Here is the red version

Smile Ejection seat

Since this is a two seater, each plane gets two seats. A total of six seats will be built.

Here are the parts. All seats are identical.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7768.jpg

I decided to build one complete seat and then after check out, I'll build the other 5 seats production style.

Here is the first finished seat.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7769.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7771.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7772.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7773.jpg

Note: I modified the lower bucket to rounded shape. The kit has a flat bottom which is wrong since the pilot sat on his parachute which fit into the lower seat bucket.

and a quick check of the seat in the red plane forward

and

aft position

More soon.

Thumbs up Ejection seats -production line

Now its time to build the rest of the seats. One down and 5 to go.

I will use a production line method.

parts

next step of the assemblies

Mig-15 marathon-img_7788.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7789.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7790.jpg

I replaced some of the parts that support the head rest with wood pieces ( it was easier for me to make instead of folding tiny parts.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7791.jpg

and all seats are done
Mig-15 marathon-img_7792.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7793.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7794.jpg

the advantage of building all 3 models at the same time is that once you build one section, the other two are much easier to build and less time is needed to figure out how to make those parts.

Consistently brilliant results, you make it look easy which I have no doubt it is NOT.

Mike

I would not say that this kit is easy, but is certainly designed well and no issues so far. The build technique used is average. I think if you built 20 or so models in this scale, you will have a good time building it.

The complexity is more in a production line method I have used.

Smile Canopy

I will build the red UTI plane in a closed canopy mode. The other two will have the canopies open. There are certain parts that are not visible in the closed configuration and will not be used.

To start with, I ordered the GPM made canopies. Here they are:
Mig-15 marathon-img_7762.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7763.jpg

here are the exterior canopy frames . The grey colored parts will not be used.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7809.jpg

ready to be glued
Mig-15 marathon-img_7810.jpg

and glued.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7811.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7812.jpg

inside view
Mig-15 marathon-img_7813.jpg

I must say it looks industrial! Not elegant. The frames are separate and more suitable for the open configuration.

dry fit to the fuselage
Mig-15 marathon-img_7814.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7815.jpg

Now its time for the inner frames.
Mig-15 marathon-img_7817.jpg

Note: There are so many flimsy parts that I decided to cut the inner frames into small manageable pieces and glue in place one at a time. Also, in the closed configuration, some of the frames not visible are omitted. I also added lower sidewalls.

Now add the last few cockpit details ( control stick and throttle handle )
Mig-15 marathon-img_7818.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7819.jpg

Canopy is now glued on
Mig-15 marathon-img_7824.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7825.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7826.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7827.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7828.jpg

Mig-15 marathon-img_7829.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_7830.jpg

I like it.

I'm looking at the parts for the open canopy version. Some are very thin. I will need to be carefull.
