Exclamation Canopy on for Silver CS version

This is where the complex canopy will be assembled, cut up and reassembled to this version of the two seat Mig 15.

Lets get ready
Mig-15 marathon-img_7851.jpg

the GPM canopy is fully formed and will be cut up after the framing is attached.

Notice that the canopy for the forward canopy swings to the right to open while the rear one slides aft. In addition there is a large lower fairing surrounding the double cockpit.

Here are the parts:

wind shield is glued on first. It will be cleaned up later.

a quick dry fit

lower fairing/frame is glued on

and a few more detail in the cockpit. No worries since it remains open.

another dry fit

glue the rest of the frames with some space to cut the various sections out

The inner frames are added as well.

Now glue the windshield / lower cockpit fairing to the fuselage

The rear fairing will be cut at the fuselage split line.

Cool Canopy continued

cut the read lower canopy fairing at the fuselage split line. Finish that area.
This feature is a modification from the kit because I will be displaying the model with the engine showing and fuselage halves separated.

Here is the rear fairing attached to the rear fuselage

The center frame, forward and rear canopies will be finished, but placed aside as they will be getting in my way when building the wings.

Cool Equipment bay

The silver version will be modeled with more details. I decided to open up the forward equipment bay ( in front of the cockpit on top ) and add some detail there.

Here is a graphic from the Mig-15 manual showing one configuration.

The Mig-15 that are flying today no longer have these obsolete equipment and therefore were not suitable for my needs. I wanted a real old version. Here is a picture of current bay of a Mig-15UTI ( it happens to be for sale if you want one ).

Here is my rendition.

Cover loosely on ( Note that the cover was attached with six latches and was removed for service. It was not hinged to the fuselage ).

and opened up

and a quick status view

I know it is a lot of work, but I like it.

More to come when I add the wings and engine detail.

Equipment in nose compartment-those are radio sets, aren't they? This is pre-transistor era so radios are tubed ,big and generate fair amount of heat.

Very good builds and lots of fine detail done. You have better eye and more patience than most of us.

Wings are next, but the Silver version will be more complicated to attach.

I'll start with the red plane first.

Stay tuned
