Hmmmmm.

Remember how we used to soak several paper-thin 1/16 inch wide strips of balsa or basswood in water, smear them with white glue, and form them around a balsa or cardboard template (with the edges smeared with wax from a crayon) and let them dry to fabricate the outer surfaces of the empennage or wing tips?

Presumably one could do the same thing with paper.

You already have a suitable technique, but I'm just thinking?

That was one of the old school techniques that led me to the conclusion of doing it this way.
That and the ship modelers method of soaking planks to shape them to the hull.

Ray, I was thinking of basically the same thing for my build..if I ever get to it, so many things on the burner right now. I'll be following.

Looking great so far.

Tamyia makes an aluminum in spray.

I found a can too late for my I-16.
Not too late for your model

Great work with them tubes Ray. I love it when builders use jigs so much easier to get the correct shape needed. But it was steel not aluminium so just a little correction on the shade of paint you need and you're good to go. Looking forward for this build - especially your choices and technique on stringing the frame.
