Free airliner, Tu-134
I don't know if anybody noticed, but there's a couple of nice Russian airliners recently added to the download section. The models are 1/72 scale, nicely drawn and have good detail. Normally I hesitate building Russian kits since it's hard to insure there no copyright violations, but I figure that our moderators have made sure this kit is a legal download. I chose to download the Tu 134A from here: PaperModelers.com - Downloads - Tu-134A-3
I like this model because how many airliners have a bombardier seat? The Tu 134 have lots of different color schemes, but I like the basic Soviet era Aeroflot scheme. The model is not without a few problems. The instruction sheet looks like it was designed for an earlier design since there are parts on the sheet that are not in the model. The model uses a central box and two wing boxes to support the wings, but the instruction sheet shows wing spars. Same problem with the tail sections. The model has separate pieces for the rudder and horizontal stabs. I cut out a section of the fuselage to make room for the central wing box. I also added support spars for the vertical stab to support the T tail. I added details to all the windows to give the model a little more pop. The hammer and sickle emblem from the Soviet flag on the tail was missing so I added that too. The kit has no landing gear detail so I will make up a stand for it. |

Hi Knife!
Thanks for a very complicated review of Tu-134A-3 paper model kit! I can add only that it has a very interesting history. The model was designed by Dmitriy aka Di-3 , but it was improved a little bit (that's why there are some parts not mentioned in the instruction) and converted into vector format by Artyom Bobkow. Tu-134 in UtAir livery (a recolor made also by Artyom) was published in the download section too. In the near future I am planning to upload here some more recolors: Aeroflot-Nord (made by Juriy aka Efya), Alrosa Airlines (by Artyom Bobkow) and Samara Airlines (by me). I would like to wish to all of you happy building! Regards, Sergey.

Great design Dimitry. I did purchase one of your Su-27's from Ecarmodels, and love it too.
And thank you to all for the free downloads. Gary

Here's the finished airplane. I added cardboard reinforcements for the engine nacelles and the horizontal stabilizers to provide more strength to the glue joint. Since I wasn't going to displace the elevators I left a little glue tab on the inboard sections and glued it directly to the horizontal stab. That gave i nice little step down edge to the elevator to give it more 3D effect. I hope Dimetri likes it.
