FG Spad XIII 94th Aero

A while back I decided to work my way through FGs Spad XIII 94th Aero Squadron collection. These were redrawn by Mike Smith, and they're a bit larger than Chip's original hand-drawn Spad. This particular livery is given as Lt. William Palmer's "Diamond Dick."

This is the two-sheet large version. I got all the parts cut out this evening, and tomorrow or the next day I'll begin with the fuselage and lower wings.

I do love WW I aircraft paint schemes. Even they camo themselves, they still want to be seen, form way fair away. That's just men with iron balls with I'm here, come and try and get me paint schemes. I just love them.

I like the paint schemes as well. I don't know how realistic Fiddler Green's models are, but they're a lot of fun to put together. I'm at work right now, but I'll be starting on the fuselage this evening, and hope to get it partly done, at least.

Th0se schemes were actually post war. The idea was the same though, they were making a presence known.

Thanks for the information, Beard. Well, I finished the fuselage and the cowling. The parts went together fairly well, but if you look at the picture below, the cowling is a bit off. Trying to line up those diamond tips was hard, both because of my big fat fingers, and the fact that my eyes aren't what they were back when is was only 60.

I know what you mean, you only have about 4 years on me. I take off my glasses for real close work, but sometimes my nose gets in the way.

I repainted a few of these for Over Flanders Fields. Their spad was the one of the easiest to paint, but I don't think the skins would transfer well to a paper model, though the DVII skins worked quite well. I still have the files so I will have to check.

I plan to build some of the Fokker DVIIs in the coming year. FG has the DVII in 7 different color schemes.

I finished up the lower wings and the eight wing struts this evening. Here are a couple of views. I also attached the engine plate and the outer cowling.
