It was used as F-21 from the Navy only, as an aggressor. It was deemed too costly to support though so in the end they were withdrawn. Interesting though as the private company that is used to fly aggressor roles in US has also used the type more extensively than the USN.

According to wiki the USMC only used theirs for 2 years (1987-1989) before replacing them with the F-5E. USN's VF-43 used them for 3 years (1985-1988).

Next up is a repaint and mod of Bruno's Pfalz DIII into the DIIIa. I cheated and built it in 1/72nd scale. The last picture is beside a 1/100 Pfalz DIII.

Very well done constructions; what I most admire for this WWI models are the wheels. They're perfect constructed!!!! Those little details enhance the models. Brent, may you post a wheels construction tutorial? Best Regards, Tony.

Hi Tony, my tutorial would be pretty short. I colour the backside with black pencil and cut out the pieces. I then glue the round tread piece and glue on both sides. I cut the hubcap and shape on my eraser with a stylus and glue it together.

Just so the DIIIa would have an adversary, I repainted Bruno's Spad into Frank Luke's plane. I have always been fascinated by his story since reading a comic book about him as a kid.

Thanks,
Brent
