About 20 years ago, back when we lived in Humboldt County, a flock of black-crowned night herons decided to roost in a big cypress tree down the street, much to our delight, as we would go watch them take off in the evenings to forage. The folks who owned the house with the cypress in the yard were not quite as happy.

Hello Birder,

That's a very fine bird you're making here. Very skillfully made engine and landing gear. Good luck with attaching the cowling, they can be tricky with very few points to add glue. In my place we have herons just around the corner, in a small pond between the housing estate and park area. And big aluminium birds flying overhead, turning to finals RWY06 at Schiphol Airport.

Regards,
Erik

Thanks Eric for your reply, it's fun to do a few extra things to an old kit like this one. Those aluminum birds are "gashawks"

Update where straying off plan, home made wood wheels and preparing tailfeathers/ stabilizers anyway with bit of chipboard for spacing, then add a central piece to lengthen the moving parts a bit to insert there, I make a couple extra copies of some parts of the plane or use a piece from another matching color (see rudder)

seabirds

I love old carrier warplanes, this being one of them. I find engine grills on radial engines the hardest thing to replicate on paper. You've done the model prowd.

Nice work.

Thank you for the kind comments, the radials are fun for me, and just about all the navy planes had them in the PTO..hope this model will look ok with my old Zero..being in the air about the same time
