May I also suggest, if you want to "weather" your kits, do not use white glue smeared
around. A pastel chalk, in several colors of gray or black, applied with a brush will produce a much more subtle weathering effect.

Thanks texman! So, are the pastel chalks available at craft stores and the like?

Here are the pics of the B&W NATC version of the F-18 for your reference. I used re-cycle
paper to make the model so the printing on the reverse side of the paper shows through. That's why I didn't put clear paint over it. As a matter of fact, I'm re-building this livery with a combination of chrome paper and intend to install cockpit details and clear canopy. This is my beta build of the chrome version. It's gonna wait. Papermate |

Cool pics! Chrome paper, that sounds expensive and maybe a little rare. Where did you get it?

I call it chrome but others call it silver paper. I got them in HK but haven't been able to trace
it for a re-buy. It's most probably made in China under an unknown brand name. Papermate |

Ok. Thanks. I'll try to get some. So far my materials are pretty basic : a few lousy xacto's a pocket knife for tiny scissors and tweezers, a toothpick, a straightened paper clip, another pair of tweezers, a pair of normal scissors, glue, tape if I accidentally rip the paper for whatever reason, and of course paper.

the it is the actual chalk type, not the wax type. You will need to scrape it on some sandpaper or in some way to make it into powder.

I use also pastels chalk type, and they are great for weathering, painting edges and the why not.
Cheap ones, will do. |
