Looking good Isaac, very interesting to see the process of making. Gladly you didn't give up during your "quest"!

Smile canopy- Future coating

My usual way is to treat the vacuformed canopy to a bath of Pledge Future acrylic floor finish. It coats the plastic and gives it a nice shine.

Once it is dunked in Future, I lay it on sticks to dry
F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-dscf3550.jpg

and cover it overnight ( to prevent dust and dirt sticking to it )

And a quick initial fit

Now add the frames

I colored the inside of the external frames black ( before gluing ) and chose not to use the inner framing because, I can't match the two sections ( inner and outer ) others can do it I'm sure. The mirrors will go on the inside

Question Canopy fit - Small problem

Once all is dry in the canopy, I have dry fit it to the fuselage. Generally it is OK and does need some attention due to its large size ( a bit over 6 inches or 150mm long ).

However, I noticed that if I place the windshield where it needs to be
F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-dscf3557.jpg

, the rear is too short by approx 0.1 inches.

Not sure why or how, but at this point I am not gluing it on yet.

I am going to make a second canopy assembly and see if it is any better by biasing the windshield to forward pilot's canopy frame a bit aft by 0.10 inches.

I think that is the issue since there is no lower frame on the windshield.

more to come.

Red face Found the error

Since I did not mark the canopy frame in regards to the windshield location, I did not place the windshield arch in its proper location and hence it ended 0.1 inches toward the front.

Here is an extract of Yoav's instruction
F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-forward-wind-shield-set-up.jpg
F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-forward-wind-shield-side-view.jpg

here is my canopy ........ and my error location
F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-dscf3552.jpg ............ F-4E; Yoav Hozmi model-canopy-windshiel-distance.jpg

I will make another canopy.

Also, I will frame it prior to trimming the sides.
