Now that's a pretty little model. Does it fly?

Thank you. In 1/72 , it does not fly but in a bigger size , I think it is possible.

That is a nice version of the Fiddlers Green original - which actually gives you one of the largest scale paper aircraft models I know, namely something around 1:13,4 (with a 1:21 alternative version). Even the large-scale version fits into A4 size papers. One reason is that the original was designed to be built in a 5.4 meter garage, so the cuts in the wings are perfectly to scale.

Another attractive aspect of this model is that it has very few compound curves, as it was designed to be built with plywood sheets. For that to translate even better into paper modeling, the design of the model really should have been slightly different. Instead of being built with a number of small sections, the model ought to have been designed with formers and large skin sections running lengthwise.

Not even the canopy was "blown" in the original, so it would lend itself beautifully to bending simple pieces of transparencies.

It was nice to be reminded of this model. As to Curt's question, I agree with Jan - building the larger scale version from Fiddlers Green, and adding ballast to get the CG right, it would probably fly. Uncomfortably fast, but nevertheless, fly.

Optimally designed, this is an ideal paper scale model.

Leif

Such a tiny build. The airbrakes on the full scale model were interesting designed.
