Cool Heinkel P.1080 Eric Son in 1/48 scale

Here is another one of Eric's 1/48 scale creations. It is a Heinkel P.1080 twin ram jet powered fighter.

This is an elegant looking plane with pleasing curves and proportions and has a nice color scheme.

A little information here:
Heinkel He P.1080 Luft '46 entry

and a view of the plane from Eric's computer design

Eric's blog on his design and build is here:
Cut, Fold & Paste: Heinkel P.1080 - Part 02

as well as on this forum
Heinkel P.1080 (Luft46)

This would be a nice addition to my Luft 46 collection I am building while in Canada on a TDY .

Luft 46 collection- Hotel build

All are in 1/48 scale and all are simple builds.

Smile The kit

As you can see, Eric spent alot of time developing this design on his computer. The model has a good amount of sections and has a nice color scheme selected.

Most of the work will consist of tubes and conical sections tht should go together well.

Isaac san,
Tailless wing plane is interesting. Look forward to seeing next update.

BTW, as you know now is nice season in Japan. Brisk air, no mosquitoes, fresh greenery, beautiful flowers.

Smile Let's build

Fuselage is of conventional design. There are a good amount of sections to depict the shape.

Since the kit is unfinished as far as part marking and instructions, you can mark them yourself and match the sections with the frames.

For the frames make sure you know which ones go to the front and which to the back as they are not the same.

As for the joining tabs, I use standard printer paper rather than card because it conforms easier to small rounds.

Here are the parts laid out

and sections

start assembly from the front to back and the rear section from rear to the front. They will join in the center.

Fuselage continued

And the rest of the construction.

The frames are added when I have enough sections attached. I then fit them where they naturally want to fit.

Then add the next section, add a frame if needed and so on.......

Smile Main sections

Here are the 3 sections left to attach

Note that the sides of the center sections will be cut out later to accommodate the engines. I decided to slit them for easier attachment of the sections

Canopy

Here it is

and on

I want to enlarge this model to 1/33 scale some day and build a good interior with a clear canopy. It would really look nice.

Engines

This concept plane was to be powered by ram jets. Those are not conventional jet engines as they do not have a compressor and rely of forward airspeed to compress the air for combustion.

This kit has the inner smooth flow lines. So the outside of the parts are un colored.

In order to keep the inlet round, I used Yoav's method of inserting a frame just a bit aft of the inlet and then apply CA super glue to the rim. When dry it is a hard shell.
