Mounting the cockpit in the fuselage

The latest progress started with a near disaster. Messed up my working place with spilled coffee but luckily the brown tsunami went the other way, otherwise "end of this thread".

I’m not sure how the designer intended building the cockpit into the fuselage. There are several ways to do this, unless the opis budowy (building instructions) provide one, but I didn’t check.

The skins can be wrapped around the cockpit section one by one or the skins can be pre-assembled to allow the cockpit to be slid in from behind. For me the last option worked the best, as pre-assembly ensures the most accurate joining of the various fuselage sections. By dry-fitting the cockpit it can be determined if the formers need a bit of sanding. Although the model fits perfectly up so far, some small correction here and there is required.

Cut out the slots for the nose landing gear and leave fuselage ring 44 open, otherwise the cockpit cannot be placed. It can be closed later.
Once satisfied I only glued front former 66 to the skins to fixate the cockpit, followed by bulkhead 1 at the back of the cockpit to the rear window post (part 45) and the sides of the cockpit to the internal lining (part 42). With some sanding here and there everything fitted just fine.

Before gluing the skin edges of fuselage ring 44 to the nose wheel well I first put fuselage ring 64 in place to ensure proper alignment, then glued former 5 at the back of the cockpit section to the inside skin and finally the edges to the nose wheel well. Not too complicated but it involves quite some work, and planning ahead is a good thing to do.

Lastly a few more details inside the cockpit. Next time the remaining ones.

Well, that's it for now!

Erik

Wink

Erik

I see your problem,

your coffee cup is too narrow on the bottom. High CG, large side load = tipping moment = disaster.

And , objects in motion tend to continue in motion.

You are one lucky guy.

Other than that , great work on the model

Isaac

Great clean work Erik, just make sure the cup isn't too full.

Some progress and some setback

Hello everyone, thanks for your comment and support. Next time no coffee mugs anymore on my desk. A high Cg is too much of a risk, even with not much coffee inside.

Finished the cockpit area: Anti-glare panel, other cockpit details, ejection seat in place and canon details. Some instruments still have to be installed on the anti-glare panel but that will be done when the windshield is placed.

To stiffen the fuselage, I internally lined some of the ring sections with 160 grams paper.

Then comes the main landing gear bay. This is quite an elaborate structure of different kind of (lined) formers. The "arms" on either side of this section are the wing roots and they are reinforced with dia 1mm wire.
Took a lot of cutting (perhaps should have bought the laser cut set??), resulting in a blister on my left index finger. As I’m left handed this is an immediate handicap…. Painful. So now I’m forced to take a break .

Erik

i also join to the compliments and for the recovery bless.

another thing.....a suggestion:
insted of holding parts with tools is to glue with super glue, it makes the work easy and faster....in 5 seconds all kinds of paper parts glue togather wonderful.

regards

It looks to me like a thermal blister.
