Spectrum Hovercraft
Hi,
After making a Delta rocket that launched the SMAP probe I thought I'd try Gary Pilsworth's hovercraft from his teaser images. There is the full sized one in our download section which I have too. Here is the first of four corner pieces. The teaser fits on an A4 size sheet or 8-1/2 x 11. At this size the tabs are really tiny so I left extra paper for the white glue. If you have already done the Fiddler's Green balloon, then these corners are very similar. Jeff

Go for it Jeff.
 I too was tempted to make another mini from Gary's teaser (I did a one page mini of his Gloster Javelin last year). It looks perfectly do-able to me, but my damaged fingers are not up to it now, so I'll be following your build with interest.

Tubes
So here's today's progress,
Made some mistakes but they will be hidden as the photos will show. Had to do some touch up work with brush and acrylic black. Bottom aircurtain is a segmented tube/pasta shape, more akin to the "Ben Franklin" stove pipe bend. My first photo is off to a wrong start so I thought that rolling the tubes first would be better. I'll put a ruler next to the model when I get the cockpit in place, side views are waay too fuzzzy, model is 4" long (10.2cm).

Cabin and related stuff
Hi,
First I'd like to thank Gary for a very interesting model and for sharing it freely. So, here is the cabin parts and engine area. The rear engine area behind the large fan felt a bit fiddly in construction but came out O.K. A quick spritz of spray varnish would have helped to keep the HP printer ink from wearing away. Mostly happens when rolling or making sharp curled pieces. My Prisma color markers tend to bleed beyond the edging of parts. Last picture shows the final detail bits. It will be completed & ready for the shelf this weekend.  Jeff

Hi,
How did you know it's being stored in a box? ESP?  Anyways a very nice model to build. At this size the scale looks to be 1/144 to 1/150. The Gary's full sized is probably a lot easier to do. The antennas are cotton thread painted black with pva glue to stiffen them. I know that I would just stab myself on them, get em' broken or lost if they were wire or plastic. This way is more flexible. Some final thoughts for the big one are that the fan blades could be separate parts with a "dome/cone" center to add more 3d. In the small one the print out works. A fan motor or RC car motor might be interesting to install in the larger one, as well as a flashing red light over the cockpit. Overall a nice model to build. Again a thanks to Gary across the pond. And by the way if it was a real one it would be really cool to pull up on the beach in at "Port Wenn" at low tide when the fishing boats are beached on the sand. Hop out and make way to the pub for some fish & chips. Port Wenn is really Port Issac where the T.V. show Doc Martin is filmed. Jeff
