1/144 Mig-21 UMD
Well, after a few curve balls, life thought I needed a break, and provided
me some much needed therapy time at the build desk. Looking for something not to difficult, yet under modeled and vibrantly colored, I chose the Czech Mig-21 UMD from Bruno Van Hecke (SNP). Construction was straight forward, as a Mig-21 is a pretty simple aircraft. My only issue, the spine red markings to not quite line up with the fuselage. Following my usual practice, I replaced the kit exhaust nozzle with a nozzle printed on Red River silver paper. I also added some humps n bumps, as well as some antennae. On the under carriage, I added some retract actuators. I replaced the radar/intake cone with a milled and sanded piece of dowel. The pitot tube was replaced in favor of my preferred material, a syringe needle. The good news, this kit does show that I am coming to grips with the SNP "dart" method of canopies and spines. The bad news, I am still not proficient at it! But I do continue to improve. Thank you for your viewing time!

Looks great Ray. couple tech questions; do you have multiple bases for each of your aircraft or is that a generic base that you display aircraft on? if they are multiples where do you get them, they look great. and #2 what gauge needle are you using for the pitot tubes?

Thank you all. I appreciate your kindness!
cmdrted, I have a pretty large collection of bases, I use them for shows and pictures. Other wise, most models sit on the shelf. There are a couple of specialized bases I use, (USS Trippe, BSG Viper, Imperial Shuttle, etc) that are model specific. The bases are simply craft store bases, I sand then stain. I then print a suitable graphic, and glue it to the base. When the time comes to change the graphic, a little water and scrub, and the base is ready for a new graphic. I think I have about 24 different bases. As far as the syringe needle, it is a 30 ga needle. Hope that helps!

We're all our own toughest critics (and rightly so), but Texman you are being particularly tough on yourself to be producing gems like this and then questioning your proficiency! A simply superb and inspiring paper model.
