Finished up the right engine pod, I included pictures of exhaust details from the kit. I ordered the Fly Model F-111 and Hobby Model JAS Gripen 064, along with some A3 cardboard for the fuselage and wings, along with a canopy for the F-111, Gripen, and the GPM DO-17 I have.

Once I get that, I'll start on the fuselage framing

Fuselage framing is nearly all cut out, and I cut out the wings. They're huge. The sharpie pictured is full sized. It's between the wings. I also finished the front part of the nose.

Call me crazy, but I want to build movable flaps into the wings, similar to this model.

Next update will include better pictures!

The wings are huge! The moving flaps would be sweet, but would probably require A LOT of modification to the wing structure. Something that may require a total redesign of that section of the wings (or most likely the whole thing).

Willy, considering the only structure in the actual wing is in the form of a box, I'm not incredibly worried about having to cut into the structure too much.

Trying to figure out how to get the massive Fowler flaps working, however, is a bit more work. I'm thinking making a vertical bulkhead running along the span of the flap towards the middle of the wing, with holes cut in them. Bamboo skewers would slide in and out of those holes, and would be anchored to the flap end, probably in a way that would allow them to pivot.

In theory, it works. In actuality.. I have to actually build it to test durability.

The real question is... where are you going to put it? It looks that it will take a big space at home... unless you have an agreement with the local museum...

No agreement with the museum haha, I'm thinking I'll try to securely hang it from the ceiling so I can display the flaps. Currently, as the pictures so, I have a 2mm strip secured in the flap. There are 7 main supports for each flap with 6 smaller pistons, one between each main support. I'm going to cut square holes into the rear of the wing support, allowing the supports to slide in and out of the wing.
I'm also considering movable spoilers, there is a rack of 4 on the top of each wing, those would be hinged with a piston guiding it up and down. All 4 deploy when the wing is extended, with only the two outer panels deploying while the wing is swept. The flaps do not extend when the wing is swept.

Found an interesting fact: due to the design of the wing-pivot the wings cannot be swept while on the ground. The pivot is designed to be used while the wings are loaded during flight, and they will use wing tank fuel first and then transfer fuel during flight to maintain the COG.

I'm still not sure how I'm going to support the wing, there is a single pivot point with a former in the fuselage and a former in the wing. My plan is to make the wings as light as possible and strengthen the swing joint to ensure the wings don't droop.

More soon!
