Another curious aeroplane for your collection Isaac. It seems like your assignment turns into "nothing is more permanent than a temporary situation" ?
It's probably the nose art but I couldn't stop thinking it's actually some sort of fire cracker. Given the chances of survival for the pilot in case of bailing out as you put it, these kind of machines certainly were dangerous fire work. Keep on building, Erik |

Erik My assignment will have one of two options in the next two weeks. Either I go back home or I stay in Canada for a year or so. In that case I will find an apartment to rent. At that point, I will go back to building my 1/33 scale detailed aircraft. Regarding the nose art, it is similar to what the West German Luftwaffe used on their jets in the 50's and 60's Regarding bailing out, these Luft 46 projects did not factor in any pilot surviveability. Prone positions, engines on top, seating on top of jet and rocket engines , high speeds and no ejection seats. All reduce the probability of escape. On top of that there were many micro jets with minimum engine thrust that offered zero pilot protection and were expendables ( pilot and plane ). Such is the stupidity of these wars...... Isaac

Wheels
The wheels are made of laminated card stock cut using a rotary cutter that was glued and sandwiched.
When dry, I drilled a hole and mounted on a Dremel tool shaft. Then sand to shape and size. A quick paint job add the hubs and then using CA super glue attach the wheels on the struts. A side note: This is the last picture taken with this Fuji slim camera. after this picture was taken it flew out of my hand onto the hard kitchen floor and bent the lens. There is no fixing it. In a way, it is OK. I got the camera 5 years ago and it was used for thousand of pictures and was finally demoted to take pics of the various builds. However as can be seen, it had a hard time adjusting the color and many pictures at this hotel build marathon looked yellowish in color. Luckily, I have my Canon Powershot camera with me so the world is saved again Isaac

Hi Isaac,
The Black Tulip nose art was made popular by Erich Hartmann. That is what I tried to recreate when I was skinning the model. I think there is another similar nose art, but colored red. It was used by Herman Graf. RE: Bailing out Wasn't the HE162 equipped with an ejection seat? But yes, some of the stranger designs have questionable provisions for pilot escape. - Arado AR E.580 and the weird ME "Schwalbe" (not to be confused with the 262) -- the cockpits are halfway hidden inside the engine intakes. - Daimler-Benz 'Jager' -- mid fuselage prop spinners directly behind the cockpit. Well, I guess they would have included small charges to blow away the props before ejection. |

Doors on
Doors are attached.
The nose gear doors come in 6 segments each side ( including 3 inner and 3 outer ). Not sure if needed at 1/48 scale. Looks like a plane now. Isaac

This was a fun build. When I go home, I would like to place it next to my previously built 1/33 scale enlargement of this kit and take comparison pictures: Blohm und Voss BV P.212.02 – Eric Son model Isaac

Looking good!
Wow, black tulip nose art. Why didn't the Dutch Airforce never came up with such idea, after all, I'm typing this from Tulip Country (ha, ha). And yes, ..... the stupidity of war.... but it's inspirational for designing and building models. Your new camera is certainly better . Have a good weekend, Erik |
