Murph's Models - Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar, 1/74
The first of this series of three is the Water Bomber, re-scaled
to 1/72 to fit my series of 1/72 Murph's planes. The fit is perfect and not too much of a problem along the way. However, the trickiest part is the landing struts. My 2-cent is to build the main vertical struts on both sides first before adding the other supporters. A few enhancements have been made to this model, like clear Astrodome by means of heat-forming and, as usual, the spinning props. And a couple of minor points - missing colours - for Aaron to rectify. So, this is a fun model with a certain degree of difficulty (3/5) - a challenge - I would say. Until the next, enjoy the views. Yeah, this is a tail sitter. Don't forget to put nose weights. I've put in
two marbles. Papermate |

Thanks, RyanShort, I'm hiding many of the defects in fact. Or else,
I would take loads of pics on her. Papermate |

Another enhancement that I have missed mentioning in the first
post is the air intake holes on the leading edge of the wings. I cut out the black part, glued a piece of black scrap card at the back. When it was dry, I used a ball point tool to press the black paper in to cave it in. So, it looks more realistic. Also a slight preview of the nose cone of the next flying boxcar. Papermate |

Thanks, YOAV and willygoat. If you want a glossy or shiny look, the
use of photo prints is necessary. But it takes some getting used to working with photo prints. Papermate |

Thanks, John. The boxcar is a really an oddball. Perhaps I should do
Bob's version as well. Papermate |
