Ronan, if I look at your F16 build, I might just have to follow your build and redo mine!

Very interesting... I'm glad to see a "model by Marek" being built.
I'm waiting to see the complete nose. |

Camo
Charles
What an interesting camo on this 109. Good build, keep it up buddy (I love 109s). Regards |

Looks very good. I prefer the early angular 109 A to E versions over the later ones, so I will follow your build closely.
BTW: Does Marek know of this build and is he member of this forum? Cheers, Martin

Almost gave up
I almost gave up on this model after having it 95% complete, and thanks to my dog, Buster, getting hold of it. He destroyed the wings and a few other parts. Then I saw the models and stories posted by Hyair and it inspired me to get going again. I managed to salvage most of the fuselage and decided to complete that first before starting on the wings again. I built a template using the wire templates supplied with the model and used some plastic from a sandwich container. I found that some plastic shrink when heated, while others just go soft. For canopies I prefer the ones that shrink. To help keep the form I glued two flat sticks to the edges and put it under tension with some elastic bands. Canopy actually does not look too bad. Last photo just a test fit, still need to reform the wire former on the fuselage for a better fit. If I had to rebuild this model and go for a closed canopy, I would form all 3 parts of the canopy as a single part.

Buster looks very remorseful.
Anyway, it's looking great! |

Maybe you should not name your dog "Buster". He probably just tried to live up to his name. :D
BTW: I had a similar experience with a rubber powered model of the Ryan ST trainer when I was about 15 years old: Had it almost finished, came home from school to mate wings, fuselage and empennage just to see all that was left were shreds of balsa wood and covering tissue and a dog that looked very guilty. I went quite mad about the incident. By today´s standards the model probably was rather crude and not worth the bother.

Done
I have finally completed this model. Looking back now, I would rate the complexity 3/5, but during the build I often thought it to be much higher due to the fact that apart from the very busy 3 page schematic diagrams, you have to do a lot of figuring out on your own. Some sections I had to redo 2 or 3 times to achieve the correct outcome. There are a few flaws in my build like the canopy not lining up 100%, will do the canopy as a single piece if I ever build this model again. Also while cropping the photos for this post, I noticed that I never installed the gun barrels (will rectify that this afternoon). All in all, this is a very good looking model and had very few fit problems that could not be attributed to my lack of skill.
