As I remember, the 707 is a modified C-135.

All 135 models had a slightly different fuselage shape from the 707s. It was closer to the -80 prototype. The E-3 Sentry AWACS planes are 707 based though.

Here is a drawing showing the difference. The 707 is more rounded. They found it worked better for airline duty I think.

When Pan Am decided to buy the 707, Juan Trippe asked for 4 more inches of width to accommodate 6 abreast seating.
