That's a fantastic looking model; I always loved the look of the 'Firebar', ugly thing that it was. I know there was a short-run plastic kit once, quite hard to get hold of ("A-Model"?)

hi hyair,
This is a nice build. Always loved the yak28, it's one of those plane with 'strong character' Back to the kit, this one got my attention for a while so can you talk us more about it, is it mat or glossy paper (that metallic layer some kits have) ? what about the average difficulties, level of detail and parts fitting ? Bye

Yak 28. Firebear
Hi Dje
The YAK 28 is Hobby model no.78 and is still around . This model is accurate in general but you need to be carefull with the main body contours espcially in the nose section. The model was built on a regular 160 gram white bristol paper . It is important to choose a paper that is easy to get rolled and doesn't have the tendency to crack. Yair |

YAK 28 FIREBEAR - more pbotos
The Yak-28 Firebear served only with the Russian airforce. It was a relatively big plane with a length of 22 m and a span of 12. The Russian Vautour as it was called was produced in 3 versions - the interceptor version had two seats in tandem - the back seater was responsible for the operation of the radar and navigation equipment. The bomber version had a glossy front were the bombardier had an ejection seat with a removable hatch above in the same manner as the IL-28 and the Vautour B ( bomber ). The third version was a photo and electronic warfare plane. The plane was not exported to close eastren countries unlike the IL -28 which was widely exported and served with many airforces. The reason was that the Yak -28 had some advanced electronic systems for it's time and they didn't want to spread out this technology even to their close connection eastren european countries.
It was reported that in 1971 some of these planes were flown by Russian pilots in Egypt as a reinforcement task force along mig 25 Foxbat's that were flown by Russian pilots for photo missions over the Israeli occupied Sinai peninsula at the time. Some more photos of the Hobbymodel Firebear in 1:48 scale. Yair |

An excellent build of an unusual subject!
However, the Yak 28 was known as the Firebar, not Firebear.
